Microbiology

The study of microorganisms, their control, harnessing of their beneficial properties, their biotechnological manipulation, and also their use towards understanding life more generally.

Microbiology is both the applied and basic study of organisms that are too small to be seen – as mature, individual organisms – with the naked eye and thus are unknown to us except in terms of their collective effects without the use of microscopy and/or via their study in pure culture.

The above video is an introduction to what microbiology and microorganisms are all about.

A discussion of the different categories of microorganisms that exist.

The above video discusses the importance including utility of microorganisms to us and the world around us.

OK, decomposition isn't all that microorganisms do, but the above video is a good, straightforward introduction to a very important microorganism niche, though why the hyphen in "microorganism"?

The above video is a bit corny, superficial, and in some cases visually misleading overview of microbiology, but nevertheless not completely without merit.

This video will leave you spellbound! (Note, though, that a number of the images are of animals rather than of microorganisms…)

The above video is a fairly brief, wonderfully presented story of Ignaz Semmelweis, Joseph Lister, and the origins of antiseptic surgery.

The above video is pretty awesome (and it's a song!).
