Green Algae

Non-plant photosynthetic eukaryotes adapted particularly to gathering light within shallow water.

Green algae, of course, are green, and not coincidentally approximately the same green color as land plants. Green algae in addition come in numerous morphological forms, ranging from unicellular and planktonic (floating within the water) to somewhat complex, macroscopic, and benthic multicellular forms.

Potentially confusing, a number of plants have found their way back into watery environments, such as the flowering plant, elodea, which commonly is placed in fish aquariums.
