Breadth of Activity

Number of different bacterial strains impacted by, e.g., a given phage cocktail.

Breadth of Activity is a measure of phage host range, with the broader the host range then the greater the Breadth, but so so too a measure of the collective host ranges of the different phages making up a phage cocktail, with the broader the collective host range then the greater the Breadth.

Note that the breadth of activity of both monophages and phage cocktails tends to be somewhat narrower than the spectrum of activity of typical antibiotics.

The breadth of activity of phage cocktails, that is, often is less than one bacterial species wide and at most will encompass more than one well deliniated bacterial species.

One can consult a breadth of activity Phage Cocktail Optimizer app.

See by constrast depth of activity.
